There is another championship trophy in Pittsburgh as Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward and dance partner Kym Johnson were crowned champions of Dancing with the Stars during the show\’s two-hour season finale Tuesday night. Ward and Johnson were awarded the Mirror Ball trophy as the season 12 champions as they beat out Kirstie Alley and her partner Maksim Chmerkoviskiy after Chelsea Kane and partner Mark Ballas were awarded 3rd place.
Ward and Johnson once again wowed the crowd with another great performance and were rewarded with another perfect score of 30 for their Samba dance Tuesday night. Ward once again wore his black and gold outfit complete with yellow towel he twirled after finishing the dance. The perfect 30 gave the couple a two night score of 89 out of a possible 90 points. The other two remaining couples also received perfect scores Tuesday night for their final performances, but the phone voting by Steeler Nation surely was more than enough for Ward and Johnson to easily be crowned the champions.
Ward is the second NFL player to win the dancing reality show as Emmitt Smith was crowned the champion back in season 3 along with dance partner Cheryl Burke. Congrats to Hines and Kym on their win as their path was filled with several obstacles as Johnson injured her neck a few weeks ago after Ward dropped her and drove her head into the floor. In addition, Ward was forced from a car at gunpoint late one night in Los Angeles during the season after police thought he was a passenger in a stolen vehicle. The incident was cleared up as the female driver of the vehicle that Ward was with had reported the car stolen, but later located it and forgot to inform authorities that it was not stolen.
