Mark Kaboly writes that the future may be now for Maurkice Pouncey at center and judging by his play Saturday, I totally agree. I suggested long ago that Justin Hartwig was not a lock to make the 53 man roster and Pouncey is making it more likely he won\’t. Sure it was just one game, but it was an impressive one at that.
Mark Madden reminds everyone settle down and that it\’s just one preseason game. Madden goes on to state the obvious that Byron Leftwich will be the starting quarterback come week one, even if Leftwich stinks in the remaining exhibitions. As far as Flozell Adams goes at right tackle, Madden thinks once Adams learns right from left, he’ll be fine. We agree with that as well.
Quarterback Byron Leftwich and wide receiver Antonio Brown coincidentally worked out at the same gym in Miami last winter. Leftwich, who was with the Buccaneers at the time, needed someone to throw to Brown was more than willing to oblige him. The Steelers took Brown in the sixth round of the NFL draft and Leftwich was traded for in April as well. It certainly is a small Steeler world sometimes.
A new Lawrence Timmons blog post surfaced a few days ago and Timmons reports he has been working at both inside and outside linebacker in camp just in case somebody goes down and it’s a worst case scenario. Timmons also reports to also doing third down and nickel packages in practices as well.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette has some great pictures up in a gallery slide show from Saturday night\’s game versus the Lions.
Referee Jeff Triplette and his officiating crew might give Jets coach Rex Ryan a run for his money in the bad language department as his field microphone picked up expletives uttered by him or one of his crew members apparently aimed at the replay official for calling for a replay during a down pour.
