2023 NFL Draft Weekend: Steelers Friday Night Five Questions

Steelers Depot Friday Night Five Questions

Happy Friday and I hope yinz are doing well.

Welcome to the 2023 NFL Draft. We’re one day in with Day Two about to get underway. In the first round Thursday night, the Pittsburgh Steelers selected Georgia OT Broderick Jones, trading up three spots to do so. We have plenty of Day One coverage and getting you prepared for tonight and the rest of the draft.

Hope you all have a great weekend and that you enjoy following our continued coverage. I thank you for visiting the site and we appreciate all of your great feedback. As always, we have five Friday night questions for you to answer.

Peace and love, peace and love!

1 – On a scale of 1-10, one being mad, 10 being thrilled, how would you rate the Steelers’ selection of OT Broderick Jones?

2 – I’d ask about Day Two topics but with the draft kicking off in an hour, you’ve all got your answers there. So I’ll ask them in a slightly different way. On the same 1-10 scale, how happy would you be about the team picking Penn State CB Joey Porter Jr. at 32?

3 – Who will be the Steelers’ Week One starting LT: Dan Moore Jr. or Broderick Jones?

4 – Will Pittsburgh change its UDFA financial model and pay out partial base salary guarantees? Or will it remain the same as it was under Kevin Colbert?

5 – What was the most surprising pick of the 1st round? (Here’s a recap of the selections)

Recap of 2023 Week Prior to Draft Friday Night 5 Questions

This recap written prior to the draft.

Question 1 – Who did the Steelers pick first Thursday night? Steelers Depot respondents named nine different possible selections. Offensive tackle (3) and cornerback (2) got most mentions as far as position. Darnell Wright received nine votes making him the favorite. Joey Porter Jr, second with five votes. Of course, the actual choice was Broderick Jones, who received just one.

DL Clemson Bryan Bresee 1
CB Penn State Joey Porter Jr 5

Question 2: 60.9% of respondents (14 of 23) believe Omar Khan will make a trade on day one of the draft. Mike Tomlin dangled the Steelers’ number 32 selection to the “quarterback shoppers” during a pre-draft press conference. But that is a second-round pick that occurs on Day two. And those 14 were correct.

Question 3: Respondents predict wide receiver Allen Robinson II making anywhere between 27 and 75 receptions in 2023. The median response was 48. We have to wait for the end of the regular season to determine his numbers. Can’t wait!

Question 4: Alex asked, “Who is the most underrated Steeler currently on the roster?” Respondents interpreted this in different ways. Two players who have not played a snap for Pittsburgh made the list. So were five different offensive linemen. Both the Heyward brothers were listed for varied reasons. But James Daniel and Mason Cole led the way with three mentions apiece.

Question 5: Steelers Depot readers like tight end Darnell Washington — 69.6% would want the Steelers to use their number 32 pick on him if available. Many still like him but believe the Steelers have other more critical needs but would love to see him selected at some point after 32 overall.

Here are the consensus responses of Steelers Depot respondents compared to the correct answers:
