The Pittsburgh Steelers have announced the jersey numbers for the slew of free agents the team has signed this offseason. While CB Patrick Peterson’s #20 was known, the rest were not.
The team offered this graphic of the new numbers below.
Peterson will wear #20, just as his cousin Bryant McFadden did when he was a Steeler more than a decade ago. Linebacker Elandon Roberts will wear #50 while linebacker Cole Holcomb will wear #55, the jersey he sported in Washington. OG Nate Herbig will take #71 and OG Isaac Seumalo will grab #73.
Roberts will take Malik Reed’s #50 while Holcomb will try to wear the #55 better than Devin Bush did. Reed and Bush recently signed elsewhere, heading to Miami and Seattle respectively. OT Joe Haeg wore #71 two years ago while #73 was relatively recently worn by OG Ramon Foster.
All five players are expected to either start or be in the mix to do so, though Herbig is the most likely to begin the year as a backup. It’s been an active first full offseason for GM Omar Khan, who has turned over the inside linebacker room and added two big and physical offensive linemen up front, the team account coining the phrase “Pickett Fence” to protect their quarterback.
Pittsburgh’s unlikely finished in free agency. Perhaps they re-sign a few of their own like SS Terrell Edmunds or TE Zach Gentry while adding low-level free agency signings with an offensive tackle or outside linebacker. The 2023 NFL Draft is just about one month away, and the team can use its unusually high amount of draft capital, three picks in the Top 50, to bolster the roster even more.
