Steelers Release WR Donte Moncrief

The Pittsburgh Steelers have released WR Donte Moncrief, signing RB Tony Brooks-James to take his place on the team’s 53 man roster.

Releasing Moncrief recoups their third round compensatory pick for 2020. Had the Steelers kept Moncrief through Week 10, they wouldn’t have been eligible for one since the Philadelphia Eagles released LJ Fort weeks ago. Signing Moncrief back even after this week would still negate the comp pick, meaning his time in black and gold is over.

Entering the season as a starter, Moncrief had numerous drops the first two games and has barely played since then. He signed a two year, $9 million deal in the offseason. His Steelers’ career finishes with just four receptions for 18 yards. A dislocated finger suffered early in training camp certainly played a factor in his struggles.

Brooks-James will be the #3 running back and another sign James Conner won’t play tomorrow afternoon against the Colts. Brooks-James has yet to record his first NFL carry. He was signed to the team’s practice squad October 15th and will wear #40. The team website lists him at 5’9, 190 pounds.
