The initial snap counts from the Pittsburgh Steelers Monday night home win against the Cincinnati Bengals are now in and they are listed below along with a few observations from each position group. We will verify the counts during our weekly play charting.
Offensive linemen: Nothing unusual with the Steelers offensive line in Week 4 outside of tackle Zach Banner (17) being back on the field and used as an extra lineman tight end like he was a few weeks ago. Banner was on the field for all seven Wildcat snaps as well.
Wide receivers: Veteran Donte Moncrief (3) was back in uniform Monday night but barely played. Ryan Switzer (0) failed to play an offensive snap for a second consecutive week. Those decisions resulted in all the playing time going to JuJu Smith-Schuster (43), James Washington (45) and rookie Diontae Johnson (37). Johnny Holton (9) also saw very limited playing time once again.
Running backs: James Conner (38) had the lion’s share of snaps and that’s not shocking. However, Jaylen Samuels (27) wasn’t as far behind Conner this week as the two running backs shared the field on quite a few snaps Monday night. Rookie Benny Snell Jr. (3) only played a few snaps once again.
Tight ends: Vance McDonald (0) was inactive Monday night with a shoulder injury so newcomer Nick Vannett (44) and rookie Zach Gentry (25) were forced to carry the tight end load along with Banner chipping in.
Quarterbacks: As expected, Mason Rudolph (59) played the entire game.
Defensive linemen: Cameron Heyward (36) and Stephon Tuitt (55) and not too far behind both was Javon Hargrave (28). Tyson Alualu (20) was mixed in quite a bit against the Bengals. Daniel McCullers (4) saw very limited playing time Monday night.
Inside linebackers: Vince Williams (0) was inactive with a hamstring injury once again and so rookie first-round pick Devin Bush (69) and Mark Barron (66) both saw most of the playing time with Tyler Matakevich (3) getting some very late reps.
Outside linebackers: Bud Dupree (61) and T.J. Watt (57) both started and played most of the game once again with Anthony Chickillo (0) inactive with a foot injury again. Olasunkanmi Adeniyi (11) did see the field a little bit again this week and even Jayrone Elliott (9) got on the field some Monday night against the Bengals.
Cornerbacks: Joe Haden (69) and Steven Nelson (69) played all 69 snaps Monday night. Mike Hilton (45) played a ton in the slot and Cameron Sutton (18) also saw sub package playing time against the Bengals.
Safeties: Safeties Minkah Fitzpatrick (69) and Terrell Edmunds (69) while backup safety Kameron Kelly (1) was on the field for one play. Jordan Dangerfield (0) was relegated to special teams duty only.
