Steelers Injury Report: Conner, Heyward Might Be Limited This Week

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a short week t prepare for their week 5 Sunday home game against the Baltimore Ravens and several players figure to be limited on Wednesday due to injuries when the team resumes practicing at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex.

On Tuesday, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin met the media again to preview the team’s week 5 game against the Ravens and early on in his press conference he updated the health of the team following the Monday night win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

“From a health standpoint, not a lot of clarity from last night’s game,” Tomlin said. “The guys that were evaluated after the game or are still being evaluated. Both guys are downstairs. James Conner with his ankle. But again, he was able to go back into the game. Cam Heyward with his quad, again, he was able to go back into the game. But these guys may be limited some this week and we’ll let their practice participation and the quality of it be our guide in terms of their game availability.

“I think the same could be said for some others who are working their way back to participation. Those being, Vince Williams, Vance McDonald and Anthony Chickillo are guys that are hopeful. We’ll see what their participation looks like. Probably less so with Rosie Nix as he continues to work back from his knee. But those other ones probably got a pretty good chance. Again, we won’t speculate, we’ll see what their practice participation is like and kinda go from there.”

In summation, defensive tackle Cameron Heyward (quad) and running back James Conner (ankle), both of whom finished the Monday night game after suffering their injuries, might start the week off limited in Wednesday’s practice. Fullback Roosevelt Nix (knee), however, isn’t expected to be ready to return Sunday against the Ravens while tight end Vance McDonald (shoulder), outside linebacker Anthony Chickillo (foot) and inside linebacker Vince Williams (hamstring) all seemingly have a shot at playing in Week 5.

For whatever it’s worth, Williams seems to really like his chances of returning in Week 5 against the Ravens based on a Tuesday morning tweet from him. He and Chickillo have missed the last two games with their injuries.
