The NFL has moved Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker Anthony Chickillo to the commissioner’s exempt list while the team has signed OLB Jayrone Elliott to his place on the roster. The team announced the move moments ago.
Chickillo was arrested over the weekend on three charges, including simple assault, following an incident with his long-time girlfriend during the bye week. He has a hearing set for October 30th. While on the exempt list, Chickillo will not count against the roster and will not be able to practice with the team. He will, however, be paid his normal salary and allowed to be present at the team facility and attend meetings. He was spotted at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex Wednesday.
Elliott spent several weeks with the Steelers earlier this season. He’s logged 12 defensive snaps in 2019 and has primarily seen action on special teams. He and Ola Adeniyi will serve as the top backup OLBs behind TJ Watt and Bud Dupree for the foreseeable future.
There’s been no word on if the team claimed OLB Tuzar Skipper. Skipper was waived by the Giants Tuesday.
