Steelers Vs. Seahawks: Player Snap Counts And Analysis – Week 2

The initial snap counts from the Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday home game loss against the Seattle Seahawks are now in and they are listed below along with a few observations from each position group. We will verify the counts during our weekly play charting.

Offensive linemen: Nothing unusual with the Steelers offensive line in Week 2 outside of tackle Zach Banner being used as an extra lineman tight end for 13 plays.

Wide receivers: Veteran Donte Moncrief (18) saw early playing time but after his drop early in the third quarter, he was effectively benched. JuJu Smith-Schuster (47) and James Washington (34) played the most snaps with rookie Diontae Johnson (27) seeing his playing time increase. Ryan Switzer (13) and Johnny Holton (6) also saw very limited playing time.

Running backs: James Conner (31) had the lion’s share but had to leave in the fourth quarter with a knee injury. Jaylen Samuels (22) played a lot in the fourth quarter with Conner out of the game. Benny Snell Jr. (2) only played a few snaps but one included a 23-yard run by him.

Tight ends: Vance McDonald (52) played a ton. The Steelers also used a lot of heavy personnel groupings in the game with several coming in the second half and that resulted in Xavier Grimble (20) playing more this week. As previously mentioned, Banner was also used more than expected on Sunday.

Quarterbacks: Ben Roethlisberger (29) played the first half and left with a serious elbow injury. Mason Rudolph (28) played the entire second half.

Defensive linemen: Cameron Heyward (58) led the way with Stephon Tuitt (56) not too far behind. Javon Hargrave (38) saw the field nearly 50% of all plays and Tyson Alualu (19) was used sparingly as was Daniel McCullers (9).

Inside linebackers: Vince Williams (10) left early with a hamstring injury and so rookie first-round pick Devin Bush (63) had to pick up the slack alongside Mark Barron (79), who played every defensive snap on Sunday.

Outside linebackers: Bud Dupree (74) and T.J. Watt (70) both started and played most of the game. Anthony Chickillo saw limited action and even Olasunkanmi Adeniyi was given a few snaps.

Cornerbacks: Joe Haden (79) and Steven Nelson played every snap against the Seahawks and Mike Hilton (44) and Cameron Sutton (19) both saw sub package playing time.

Safeties: Sean Davis (55) and Terrell Edmunds (79) both started and the former left with a shoulder injury later in the second half. Davis was relieved by Kameron Kelly (24).
