The Pittsburgh Steelers have now released their list of seven players who will be inactive for the team’s Sunday night regular season opener against the New England Patriots and as expected, safety Sean Davis is on it after officially being listed as doubtful on the Friday injury report with an ankle injury.
With Davis missing the Steelers regular season opener, fellow safety Kameron Kelly is expected to start against the Patriots. It will be Kelly’s first regular season NFL game.
The rest of the Steelers six inactives for Week 1 are all healthy scratches and the list of players includes quarterback Joshua Dobbs, tackle Chukwuma Okorafor, guard Fred Johnson, defensive end Isaiah Buggs, tight end Zach Gentry and cornerback Justin Layne. Those last three players, Buggs Gentry and Layne, were all draft picks this year.
Second-year quarterback Mason Rudolph is dressing for the first time of his young career Sunday night as he’s now the backup behind starter Ben Roethlisberger. Also dressing Sunday night is wide receiver Johnny Holton, who was promoted to the Steelers 53-man roster from the team’s practice squad on Saturday.
