Steelers’ Seven Shots – Sunday, June 23, 2019

Every Sunday during the offseason I plan on recapping for you seven items related to the Pittsburgh Steelers and the rest of the NFL that may have fallen through the cracks the past week that should be worth your time to read or watch. This weekly feature will be entitled “Steelers’ Seven Shots.”

Shot #1 – We now have 10 weeks left until the Steelers 2019 regular season opener against the New England Patriots takes place and in recognition of that, here are the highlights from the first time that quarterbacks Ben Roethlisberger and Tom Brady faced off way back on 10/31/2004.

Shot #2 – Speaking of Steelers quarterbacks, Terry Bradshaw threw 212 total regular season touchdown passes during his long career in Pittsburgh. His very first touchdown pass in the NFL came in the Steelers 7-3 win against the Houston Oilers at the Houston Astrodome on Oct 18, 1970 in Week 5 and it was 67 yards and to wide receiver Ron Shanklin. Bradshaw’s second touchdown pass of career happened on Sunday Oct 25, 1970 at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum against the Oakland Raiders and it was a 12 yard pass to tight end Dennis Hughes. You can watch both of those touchdown passes below.

Shot #3 – Its hard to find a lot of footage of the 1967 Steelers playing in their black Batman jerseys but I was able to locate some this past week. Here is a clip from the Steelers 21-10 road loss to the Cleveland Browns on 10/7/1967 that includes the team wearing those black Batman jerseys. Kent Nix was the Steelers quarterback for that game and the rookie was 23-of-34 passing in that contest for 218 yards with 1 touchdown and 3 interceptions.

Shot #4 – Several current and former Steelers players such as Terrell Edmunds, Bud Dupree, Max Starks, Rocky Bleier, Charlie Batch and Donnie Shell are in Mexico this weekend taking part in the 8th annual Steelers football camp in Mexico City and the team has a lot of pictures posted on the official website from the first two days of the event.

Shot #5 – Speaking of Bleier, here he is doing work on special teams on this punt return for a TD by Jon Staggers against the Cincinnati Bengals in a 1971 game. He had all of 9 career touches up until this point of his NFL career as he was mostly used on special teams until the 1974 season.

Shot #6 – Do you have an extra 15 minutes today? If so, here are all 52 sacks registered by the Steelers defense during the 2018 regular season.

Shot #7 – Steelers safety Sean Davis proposed to his longtime girlfriend Nicole recently and it looks like she said yes. Congratulations to the couple.
