It sounds like the Pittsburgh Steelers might have a super athletic defensive back with ball skills scheduled for a pre-draft visit.
According to Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic, Maryland safety Darnell Savage Jr. is scheduled to visit the Steelers prior to this year’s draft.
At the combine, Savage measured in at 5106, 198-pounds with 31-inch arms and 9 1/8-inch hands. He ran his 40 yard-dash in 4.36-seconds, did 11 reps on the bench, posted a vertical jump of 39.5-inches and a broad jump of 10’6″. He also had a short shuttle time of 4.14-seconds and a 3-cone time of 7.03-seconds.
During his career at Maryland, Savage registered 8 interceptions, 14 pass breakups and 182 total tackles of which 9 resulted in lost yardage.
At this year’s Senior Bowl, Savage was named one of the few Defensive Practice Players of the Week.
The Maryland pro day is this coming week so it will be interesting to see which members of the Steelers organization show up at that event even though Savage is likely only to go through position drills during it.
