Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert attended the Texas pro day on Wednesday and it appears as though one player he saw go through the paces during the afternoon session has a pre-draft visit now scheduled with the team.
According to Jared Tokarz of TheDraftInsider.com on Twitter, Texas defensive lineman Charles Omenihu has indicated that he now has a pre-draft visit scheduled with the Steelers. Omenihu was named the 2018 Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year and first team All-Big 12 by the AP and coaches. He was one of five Texas players invited to this year’s scouting combine.
Omenihu, who many draftniks project to be a mid-round selection in the 2019 NFL Draft, registered 117 total tackles of which 30.5 resulted in lost yardage, in the 51 total games he played in at Texas. 17 of those were sacks and he also had 4 forced fumbles and 2 passes defensed during his college career.
At this year’s scouting combine, Omenihu, who also participated in the senior Bowl this year, measured in at 6053, 280-pounds with 36-inch arms and 9 3/8-inch hands. He ran the 40-yard-dash in Indianapolis in 4.92-seconds and had a 36.5-inch vertical jump to go along with a 9’7″ broad jump. His short shuttle time at the combine was 4.36-seconds and his 3-cone time was 7.48-seconds. After his Wednesday pro day, however, Omenihu reportedly said he ran a 7.23 in the 3-cone drill during his workout.
The Steelers figure to draft a defensive lineman this year at some point even though they have already re-signed backups Tyson Alualu and Daniel McCullers this offseason.
We now have a full profile of Omenihu posted on the site. Also, below is a highlight video of him. When and if it’s reported that Omenihu has come to Pittsburgh for a pre-draft visit, we’ll make sure to post about it.
