Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier has been placed on the Reserve/PUP list, the team announced moments ago.
It’s merely a procedural move after Kevin Colbert ruled him out for all of 2018 months ago. This means he will not count against the 90 man roster, freeing up an additional roster spot.
Shazier suffered a spine injury making a tackle against the Cincinnati Bengals last year that left him paralyzed from the waist down. He’s shown remarkable recovery, however, and was able to walk on stage to when the team selected Terrell Edmunds in last Thursday’s draft.
His future in football hasn’t been determined and while it’s easy to count him out, Shazier has stated he wants to play in the NFL again.
“I gotta get back,” Shazier told teammate Roosevelt Nix in an appearance on his podcast in late February. “I know the end goal. I’m taking it every step of the way. But I’m giving it everything I got.”
