The 2017 NFL Scouting Combine will get underway in Indianapolis next week and that means we can look forward to Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert taking questions from the media once again.
Surprisingly, Colbert won’t bat lead-off this year when it comes to the head coaches/football executives who are scheduled to talk to the media, according to the preliminary schedule that was released Friday by Randall Liu, the NFL’s Director of Football Communications. Colbert is initially scheduled to hold his press conference on Wednesday at 10:45 a.m. EST and is seventh in the order.
As usual, Colbert is expected to talk about the depth of the year’s draft class as it relates to position groups. Additionally, the Steelers general manager is likely to be asked about running back Le’Veon Bell and if he’ll indeed avoid offseason surgery on his groin. Bell should also have been issued the franchise tag by then and Colbert will likely be asked about a possibly contract extension once again.
Don’t expect Colbert to speak specifically about any one player who will participate in this year’s scouting combine as he’s sure not to do that per his long history. He might, however, talk about if the Steelers coaching staff will indeed stay intact this offseason.
Usually after Colbert addresses the media at the combine he immediately has an interview on SiriusXM NFL Radio so that’s another I plan on recapping on the site next week in addition to everything else that he has to say during his 15 minutes on the podium.
