The Steelers and Dolphins have met three times previously in the playoffs with Miami winning two of those games. The last time the two teams met during the postseason was on Jan. 6, 1985 in Miami and the Dolphins won that AFC Championship game 45-28.
The Steelers lone playoff win over the Dolphins came on Dec 30, 1979. The final score of that game at Three Rivers Stadium was 34-14. The Steelers went to win Super Bowl XIV that season.
It’s too early to know whether Dolphins starting quarterback quarterback Ryan Tannehill will be able to play against the Steelers as he’s still trying to return from a Grade II MCL sprain and a slight tear of the ACL that occurred three weeks ago. Should Tannehill be unable to play, veteran backup quarterback Matt Moore will start against the Steelers.
The early Pittsburgh weather forecast for Sunday calls for a mix of clouds and sun in the morning followed by cloudy skies during the afternoon. A high of 26 is expected with winds out of the WNW at 10 to 15 mph.
After beating the Steelers earlier in the season, the Dolphins have suffered quite a few injuries and that includes them losing both of their starting safeties for the remainder of the season.
Should the Steelers beat the Dolphins, they’ll play the Kansas City Chiefs on the road the following Sunday in a game that will also start at 1:05 p.m. EST. That game would be shown on NBC.
