A few weeks ago, the Houston Texans claimed cornerback Al-Hajj Shabazz off waivers from the Pittsburgh Steelers. On Saturday, the Texans waived Shabazz in order to make room for linebacker Brennan Scarlett, who was activated off of their Revere/Injured list as their designated to return player.
Why is this newsworthy? Well, it will now be interesting to see if Shabazz makes his way back to the Steelers practice squad next week.
After Shabazz failed to clear waivers a few weeks ago, the Steelers signed free agent cornerback Brandon Dixon to their practice squad and last week they added free agent cornerback Mike Hilton to their 10-man unit as well.
In the one game that Shabazz dressed for the Texans last weekend, the West Chester University product played exclusively on special teams to the tune of nine total snaps. He did not record a tackle in that game, however.
