According to ESPN Stats and Info, the Pittsburgh Steelers not only clinched the AFC North Sunday with their home win over the Baltimore Ravens, they also locked up the No. 3 seed in the AFC in the process. If that’s true, then you can probably expect head coach Mike Tomlin to rest several players next week in the regular season finale against the Cleveland Browns.
Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was asked about that possibility during his post-game press conference.
“I don’t know what the situation, scenario is, if we’ve got the 3 [seed] clinched up then I think a lot of guys should get healthy,” Roethlisberger said.
By the looks of things, the Steelers escaped their Sunday win over the Ravens without suffering any significant injuries. At the very least, Tomlin didn’t name any injuries during his post-game press conference.
The Steelers held three notable players out of Sundays game against the Ravens because of injuries and they were defensive end Stephon Tuitt, tight end Ladarius Green and wide receiver Sammie Coates. It certainly would be nice if all three are ultimately allowed to sit out next weekend’s game against the Browns as well in addition to Roethlisberger, running back Le’Veon Bell, wide receiver Antonio Brown and other key starters.
