The Pittsburgh Steelers lost 35-30 to the Dallas Cowboys Sunday at home and the initial snap counts from the game offer up a few surprises
First, on offense, wide receiver Sammie Coates only played a total of two offensive snaps against the Cowboys even though he was used extensively on special teams. Coates, who was limited one day in practice this past week, has now registered just one catch in the Steelers last four games. Conversely, wide receiver Cobi Hamilton, played 68 snaps against the Cowboys and was the true beneficiary of veteran Darrius Heyward-Bey being sidelined with his injury.
In his 2016 debut, tight end Ladarius Green played only 12 offensive snaps and he caught 3 passes for 30 yards against the Cowboys.
Defensively for the Steelers, Anthony Chickillo played 37 snaps and he Jarvis Jones (37) led all outside linebackers in snaps played.
Defensive end Stephon Tuitt played every snap against the Cowboys and Cameron Heyward played all but four snaps.
It should be noted that the NFL version of snaps played was missing guard B.J. Finney and his one play. Additionally, safety Shamarko Thomas was on the field for at least one play on defense early in the game. I have added both players in the table below.
