The Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Indianapolis Colts 28-7 Thursday night on the road and a few things stick out when you look at the initial snap counts from the game.
Offensively, an ankle injury prevented guard Ramon Foster from playing every snap against the Colts and he needed to be relieved late in the game by B.J. Finney. Backup tackle Chris Hubbard also played Thursday night only he saw the field as an extra blocking tight end. He still managed to play 17 snaps.
Fullback Roosevelt Nix played a season-high 15 snaps Thursday night and running back Fitzgerald Toussaint also saw the field some as he played 7 snaps with most of them coming very late in the game.
Tight end Ladarius Green played a season-high 14 snaps against the Colts and caught two passes for 67 yards.
Despite failing to catch a pass in the game, wide receiver Sammie Coates played 10 offensive snaps against the Colts. In the two games prior he had only played just a few snaps.
Defensively for the Steelers, the team’s top three draft picks once again saw extensive playing time. Safety Sean Davis played every defensive snap while cornerback Artie Burns was only off the field for 3 plays in total and those were likely in goal-line situations. Rookie defensive tackle Javon Hargrave played 46 defensive snaps.
Linebacker Bud Dupree saw an increase in playing time in his second game of the season as last year’s first-round draft pick played 20 defensive snaps against the Colts. Fellow outside linebacker Anthony Chickillo led his position group in snaps Thursday night with 32.
