The Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Cleveland Browns 24-9 Sunday on the road and a few things stick out when you look at the initial snap counts from the game.
On offense, backup tackle Chris Hubbard played 12 snaps against the Browns as an extra blocker on the end of the line of scrimmage.
Tight end Ladarius Green saw action in a second consecutive game on Sunday and wound up playing just 8 offensive snaps, which is four less than he played in his debut against the Dallas Cowboys. He failed to register a catch against the Browns and was targeted just twice.
Wide receiver Sammie Coates continues to see his playing time dip because of his broken fingers. Against the Browns he played just one offensive snap.
Fullback Roosevelt Nix continues to be used sparingly as he played just 5 offensive snaps against the Browns.
Defensively for the Steelers, rookie safety Sean Davis not only started against the Browns, he played every defensive snap. That resulted in fellow safety Robert Golden playing just 4 defensive snaps in the game.
The Steelers were in their sub package defense quite a bit against the Browns as evidenced by the 50 snaps that veteran cornerback William Gay played.
Even though veteran linebacker James Harrison started over Jarvis Jones, the two players wound up playing the same amount of snaps (33) against the Browns. It’s important to remember, however, that the Browns final drive included 17 plays and I think Jones was on the field for most, if not all of them.
Second-year defensive end L.T. Walton played a career-high 22 snaps against the Browns with most of them coming late in the game.
In his 2016 debut, linebacker Bud Dupree played just one defensive snap.
