Due to inclement weather on Sunday at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, the Pittsburgh Steelers were forced to move their practice inside to the school’s basketball gym. After the team concluded their indoor session, head coach Mike Tomlin addressed the media and updated the team’s injury situation.
“[Jerald] Hawkins has a shoulder, that shoulder’s going to be evaluated,” said Tomlin. “That’s the only thing of any significance to speak about that I didn’t address in great detail after the game the other night. Don’t know how long he’s going to be out or what that process could be. When I get that information I’ll share it with you guys.”
Tomlin also said that the team is hopeful a number of players currently dealing with soft tissue injuries can continue to work themselves back this week in time for the second preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
“Guys like [Artie] Burns and [Bud] Dupree within that group,” said Tomlin. “[Anthony] Chickillo obviously hurt his ankle in the game, he’s being evaluated. We’ll see what he’s capable of doing as we push into this week.”
Tomlin also said that defensive end L.T. Walton is currently dealing with some back tightness. He also said that he didn’t have an update on veteran quarterback Bruce Gradkowski, who had to remove himself from Friday night’s preseason game against the Detroit Lions because of an hamstring injury.
The Steelers will be back practicing again on Monday and if the weather cooperates, that session will take place outside.
