Steelers Sign Javon Hargrave To Rookie Deal

The Pittsburgh Steelers have finished off signing their 2016 rookie class, inking third round pick Javon Hargrave to a four year contract today.

One of the few small school selections under Kevin Colbert, Hargrave dominated at South Carolina State. He finished with 37 career sacks, including 13 in his senior season. He dominated the All-Star games and had a stellar Combine, giving the team confidence he could make the jump to the NFL level.

He’ll compete with Daniel McCullers for the starting nose tackle gig though McCullers currently has the inside track. Failing to secure the starting job there, Hargrave will be a rotational piece in the team’s sub-package, hopefully subbing in for Stephon Tuitt and Cam Heyward. Both of those guys played nearly 90% of the snaps when healthy last season.

As noted, all seven of the team’s draft picks have been signed.
