Going to be honest with you guys. I didn’t expect this much news to come out on a Saturday. But hey, I’m not complaining.
If you’ve been following the site over the last several hours, you know our friend Craig Scott has been dropping knowledge-bombs from the Steelers Men’s Fantasy Camp. Specifically, the discussions that have taken place with DBs coach Carnell Lake.
In a Q&A session, Lake confirmed the Steelers would’ve taken cornerback William Jackson III had he been available. The Cincinnati Bengals took him one pick ahead.
Here is Scott’s tweet.
I followed up with Scott in a direct message though he says Lake didn’t have much more to offer.
“He basically just said yeah, we wanted WJIII but Cincy sacked him from us, then took another [question],” he tells me.
Pittsburgh took Artie Burns with the 25th pick. Kevin Colbert implied Burns was going to be their pick, but that’s a level of coach-speak you’d come to expect. The fact the team wanted Jackson, which was one of their worst kept secrets, doesn’t mean the team didn’t like Burns or panicked when Jackson went off the board. Pittsburgh simply went to the next man on their board.
Still, you can expect the two player’s careers to be compared, similar to the arcs Ryan Shazier and C.J. Mosley have taken.
