Steelers Announce 2016 Rookie Minicamp Participants

The Pittsburgh Steelers will hold their annual rookie mini-camp this coming weekend and we now know all of the players who are scheduled to take part in it thanks to a Wednesday update on the team’s official website.

According to the recent report, 54 players are currently scheduled to comprise the Steelers 2016 mini-camp roster and that group includes the team’s seven draft picks and 10 undrafted free agents.

The Steelers will have three quarterbacks participating in this year’s rookie mini-camp and they are Nick Arbuckle, a rookie from Georgia State; Dalyn Williams, a rookie from Dartmouth; and Jacob Huesman, a rookie from Tennessee-Chattanooga.

Several players who were on the Steelers practice squad last season at some point are also eligible to participate in the upcoming rookie practice sessions and they are guard B.J. Finney, safety Jordan Dangerfield, tight end Xavier Grimble, wide receiver Shakim Phillips, tackle Matt Feiler and running back Abou Toure.

The rest of the Steelers mini-camp roster is made up of players who are being brought in for tryouts. Former Steelers linebacker Terence Garvin was able to turn his rookie mini-camp tryout into a spot on the team’s 90-man roster several years ago and this year’s crop will be looking to repeat that huge accomplishment.

It should be noted that a few of these players could wind up being released by this coming weekend as the team must part ways with at least three players by Thursday.

As Bob Labriola pointed out, Steelers cornerback Senquez Golson is not eligible to participate in the team’s rookie mini-camp this year. Golson, the team’s second-round draft pick last year out of Mississippi, spent his entire rookie season on the team’s Reserve/Injured list due to a shoulder injury that he suffered last year during OTA practices.
