There are quite a few pro days taking place on Wednesday and according to Daniel Gallen of Baltimore Sun Media, Pittsburgh Steelers linebackers coach Joey Porter was present at the one taking place at the University of Maryland.
Porter was reportedly spotted talking to Maryland defensive end Yannick Ngakoue on Wednesday and later worked out the group of linebackers in attendance as you can see in the video below.
While Ngakoue played defensive end at Maryland, he is expected to make the conversion to the 3-4 outside linebacker position at the NFL level because of his size and athleticism. At the 2016 NFL Scouting Combine, Ngakoue measured in at 6020, 252-pounds. Last season he registered 38 total tackles and 13.5 sacks in 10 different games.
Many believe that Ngakoue will ultimately be selected during the third day of the 2016 NFL Draft. While the Steelers might not ultimately wind up selecting another outside linebacker prospect this year, you can’t rule out the possibility of that happening being as James Harrison, Arthur Moats and Jarvis Jones are all currently entering the final years of their current contracts. Jones, however, could wind up having his fifth-year option picked up in the coming weeks.
It will be interesting to see if Ngakoue is ultimately brought to Pittsburgh for a pre-draft visit in the coming weeks.
