Baylor is holding their annual pro day on Wednesday and according to Gil Brandt of NFL.com, Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert and head coach Mike Tomlin are both present to observe it. Other reports indicate that the Steelers have seven people present and that defensive coordinator Keith Butler is one of them.
Colbert and Tomlin in all likelihood are taking a close look at Baylor nose tackle Andrew Billings, who is currently considered a first-round prospect that many expect could be on the board come time for the Steelers 25th overall selection. It is also being reported that Steelers Hall of Fame defensive lineman Joe Greene had dinner with Billings Tuesday night.
Now that the Steelers have lost free agent nose tackle Steve McLendon to the New York Jets, the need for a new young nose tackle who can also rush the passer in nickel situations is apparent.
At the 2016 NFL Scouting Combine, Billings measured in at 6005, 311-pounds. He did 31 reps on the bench while in Indianapolis and ran the 40-yard dash in 5.05 seconds. Last season at Baylor, Billings recorded 39 total tackles and 5.5 sacks.
In addition to observing Billings, the Steelers are probably also getting a close look at Baylor defensive end Shawn Oakman and wide receiver Corey Coleman on Wednesday.
