Start sending in your advice. Because Mike Tomlin is open to all ideas. The Pittsburgh Steelers’ head coach joked today that he isn’t turning a “blind eye” to any possibility at quarterback for this Sunday.
“You guys can make an suggestion you like and I wouldn’t turn a blind eye to any of them as we sit here today. Just being honest. All of those are good. Thank you.”
Tomlin referenced the questions of having Mike Vick active as the third quarterback and a suggestion of playing Ben Roethlisberger and Landry Jones in certain situations.
What is certain is that Roethlisberger will be limited for at least the early portion of the week, according to Tomlin. And it provides an excellent opportunity for Jones to receive reps.
“It’s going to provide an awesome opportunity for Landry to get the physical reps necessary to deliver for us if called upon.”
Jones struggled in his brief appearance last week, going 2/5 with an interception. Of course, the conditions weren’t ideal. Limited reps throughout the week, playing on the road, in poor weather. He’ll have to play better should he see time this week, Tomlin readily admitted as much, but the circumstances will create an environment more conducive to success for him this time around.
In the regular season meeting, Roethlisberger went 40/55 for 380 yards, 3 TDs and 2 INTs in a 34-27 come-from-behind victory against the Broncos.
