The Pittsburgh Steelers raised their 2015 record to a 9-5 Sunday with their 34-27 come-from-behind win over the Denver Broncos at Heinz Field. The snap counts from that game have now been compiled and while there aren’t many surprises included in them, there are a few totals worth pointing out.
As you can see by the 17 snaps that tight end Matt Spaeth played Sunday, the Steelers offense didn’t use much 12 or 22 personnel in the game and that’s not surprising being as they were behind 17 points very quickly. Also, 3 of those snaps included the final 3 kneel-downs. Rookie tight end Jesse James played 4 snaps Sunday and 2 of his were at the end of the game as well. The same goes running back Fitzgerald Toussaint.
Defensively, cornerback Brandon Boykin played a whopping 50 snaps Sunday. In a later post, we’ll have a breakdown of when he was in the game, but I will tell you that he didn’t see the field until the third series.
Safety Robert Golden played 22 snaps against the Broncos as the Steelers had three safeties on the field quite a bit against the Broncos. in fact, roughly 15 plays featured the Steelers playing big nickel as that’s how many snaps that linebacker Lawrence Timmons failed to play.
