Steelers Large Reserve/Injured List Continues To Grow

After reportedly tearing the MCL in his right knee in Sunday’s loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, it seems almost certain that running back Le’Veon Bell will be placed on the team’s Reserve/Injured list in the coming days. If and when that happens, that list will then include 15 players who are out for the season.

If you think that list is long, you also have to remember that center Maurkice Pouncey is also on the list with the designated to return tag. Additionally, a few other players, such as former kicker Garrett Hartley, also spent time on the Steelers Reserve/Injured list prior to being released from it once healthy.

While every team in the league is not immune to the injury bug, the Steelers certainly have had their fair share of bites. And while several of those players currently on the list have low or minimum base salaries, they all count against the team’s salary cap.

If you include Bell and Pouncey, the Steelers will have nearly $22 million in 2015 salary cap charges tied up on their Reserve/Injured list. That’s certainly quite a few players and cap dollars and the season still has eight games remaining in it.
