With the Pittsburgh Steelers trailing the San Diego Chargers by seven points with 7:42 left in Monday night’s game, quarterback Mike Vick hit wide receiver Markus Wheaton for a 72-yard touchdown pass to tie the game. After the thrilling win, Vick praised the efforts of injured starter Ben Roethlisberger, who he said actually called that play to Wheaton
“I got to give a lot of credit to Ben,” said Vick to Alex Flannigan. “Without Ben this win probably wouldn’t have been possible for us. You know he’s like a coach on the sideline. The touchdown pass was all Ben and I’m just thankful to have him as a teammate.”
So what did Roethlisberger tell Vick on that long touchdown pass to Wheaton?
“He put the play together on the sideline and that’s it,” said Vick. “Based on what he was seeing and I was struggling, Ben put the play together, we executed it and I see why he’s a great one.”
What a great story this is and in a way you can credit Roethlisberger with the Steelers win even though running back Le’Veon Bell also played a huge part in it.
I will update this post with more quotes as the morning goes on.
