The Pittsburgh Steelers managed to snatch a victory from the jaws of defeat Monday night in their 24-20 last-second win over the San Diego Chargers and the player snap counts from the game are now available.
Offensively, not much sticks out in the snap counts except for the fact that running back DeAngelo Williams was on the field for 9 plays in Week 5. It is also interesting to note that wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey apparently played more snaps in the game than Markus Wheaton did. Wheaton was coming off of an ankle injury but he didn’t appear to aggravate it at any point during the contest. Sammie Coates only played 4 snaps Monday night, but that’s not too surprising. Running back Dri Archer once again failed to play any offensive snaps.
Defensively for the Steelers, veteran outside linebackers James Harrison and Arthur Moats were both credited with 39 snaps played on the official snap count sheet and that was three more than Jarvis Jones and Bud Dupree both played.
Due to starting safety Mike Mitchell needing to leave the game for a short period of time with an injury, Shamarko Thomas was able to get on the field for a total of 5 plays. Fellow backup safety Robert Golden also played the rest of the game after veteran starter Will Allen left injured in the first quarter.
