Despite practicing fully yesterday, linebacker Ryan Shazier was listed as a “did not participate” in the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Saturday practice, according to head PR man Burt Lauten.
It’s an obviously bad sign for Shazier. Mike Tomlin usually requires young players like him to take in a lot of practice reps during the week, something he hasn’t done. Shazier looks to head into the San Diego Chargers game as questionable but seems to be on the “doubtful” side of that tag. If he can’t practice, Sean Spence will again start as the Mack linebacker.
Cortez Allen got in a limited practice after participating in full yesterday. He continues to deal with knee swelling. Long flights can sometimes worsen swelling, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Allen miss another game.
Ross Ventrone was a full participant for the second straight day and he should be active Monday.
UPDATE: According to Lauten, Shazier has officially been ruled out for Monday’s game. Allen is questionable.
