Ben Roethlisberger wants to suit up against former offensive coordinator Bruce Arians and the Arizona Cardinals this Sunday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Schefter is quick to note the chances are Roethlisberger returning just three weeks removed from his MCL sprain are remote but Big Ben has been known to make speedy recoveries. Given his competitiveness, it’s no surprise to see him itching to play, especially given the opponent.
Arians served as the Steelers’ offensive coordinator from 2007 to 2011 and is a well-documented personal friend of Roethlisberger’s. Arians would go on to serve as the offensive coordinator and interim head coach of the Indianapolis Colts before getting hired in Arizona, becoming one of the best coaches in the league.
It’s still all speculation and still seems unlikely that Roethlisberger will suit up in less than a week. The last thing you want to do is rush him back. But it sure does make for a good storyline.
