Last week, it was fairly obvious that Pittsburgh Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey had a second surgery on his injured ankle thanks to a social media post that was made by his girlfriend. On Tuesday, during his weekly press conference, head coach Mike Tomlin was asked about that post and he refused to confirm that Pouncey’s surgery took place.
“I’m not playing the Pouncey social media game,” said Tomlin. “I have no announcements regarding any of those list guys whether it’s Maurkice Pouncey or Mike Adams, or anybody else we got on any obscure list.”
Being as Tomlin brought up Mike Adams, it certainly appears as though the tackle won’t be returning to practice this week. If that indeed winds up being the case, he’ll have to do so next week if he is to return this season from his back issue that required surgery prior to the team reporting to training camp. Adams has been on the team’s Reserve/PUP list since the start of the season. He was eligible to begin practicing after sitting out the first six weeks of the season.
The Steelers signed tackle Byron Stingily to the roster a week ago Monday to replace injured starter Kelvin Beachum, who was placed on the Reserve/Injured list with a torn ACL. While Stingily wasn’t active on Sunday for the game against the Kansas City Chiefs, that might change this coming Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals.
“I’ve been meeting with Munch [Mike Munchak] in the mornings,” Stingily told Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reporter Ray Fittipaldo recently. “I think I’m ready to go and hopefully will dress this week. We’ll see.”
