The Pittsburgh Steelers will host the Green Bay Packers Sunday afternoon at Heinz Field and on Friday, head coach Mike Tomlin announced during his press conference that five players have been ruled out for that contest.
Linebacker Lawrence Timmons, running back Josh Harris, wide receiver David Nelson, linebacker Vince Williams and wide receiver C.J. Goodwin will all be sideline against the Packers, according to Tomlin. Timmons is suffering from turf toe, but Tomlin doesn’t view that injury as being a serious one. Timmons injured his toe just prior to last Friday night’s preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Tackle Mike Adams and cornerback Senquez Golson will also miss Sunday’s game as both players are still on the team’s PUP list. As previously reported, Golson underwent shoulder surgery Friday morning.
Tomlin also said Friday that guard Chris Hubbard will get some work in Sunday’s game at the center position. Additionally, Alejandro Villanueva is slated to play some right tackle this week after playing only on the left side in the team’s first two preseason games.
Ian Wild will receive some playing time at inside linebacker this week due to the short lines the team currently has at the position, according to Tomlin. The head coach also announced that several of the team’s primary special teams players will also get a long look on Sunday.
