Earlier in the day it was reported that the Pittsburgh Steelers had signed kicker Garrett Hartley to their 90 man roster and now we know the corresponding move that was made to accommodate him.
According to the team, undrafted rookie free agent wide receiver Devin Gardner was waived injured Tuesday.
Gardner, who was claimed off waivers from the New England Patriots back in mid May, played Sunday night in the 14-3 preseason loss to the Minnesota Vikings. The quarterback turned wide receiver out of Michigan was targeted three times in the game but failed to catch a pass. In total, he played 23 snaps on offense and 11 more on special teams.
Gardner should easily clear waivers and then revert back to the team’s reserve/injured list. Depending on the severity of his injury, he might be waived from that list soon with an injury settlement.
