Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Shaun Suisham has suffered a torn ACL in his left knee, likely ending his season, according to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette. The kicker will undergo surgery this week.
It’s almost certain he will be placed on injured reserve.
Suisham tore it attempting to make a tackle on the opening kickoff of the second half. Last year, Suisham converted 29 of 32 field goals and all 45 of his extra points.
The team has likely already begun to bring in veteran kickers, though their names aren’t currently known. The top kickers on the market include Shayne Graham, Jay Feely, and Rian Lindell. It will be difficult to replace the accurate Suisham, who handled Heinz Field’s unforgiving conditions incredibly well.
