The Pittsburgh Steelers were back on the practice field Wednesday preparing for their upcoming game Sunday against the Cleveland Browns and their first injury report of the week shows that two key players did not practice.
Rookie linebacker Ryan Shazier (knee) and second year safety Shamarko Thomas (hamstring) were unable to practice Wednesday and that already puts their status for Sunday in doubt.
Shazier, who has missed the last two games with a sprained MCL in his knee was able to run in the pool earlier this week and the hope is that he might be able to practice at some point prior to the weekend.
Thomas, who injured his hamstring Sunday during the win over the Jacksonville Jaguars is expected to get some sort of running in this week either in a pool or on the field. If he’s unable to practice Thursday then he won’t likely play Sunday.
Defensive end Brett Keisel (not injury related), safety Troy Polamalu (not injury related), safety Mike Mitchell (not injury related) and tight end Heath Miller (not injury related) were all given their weekly day off Wednesday. Also not practicing was cornerback Ike Taylor (forearm), who has already been ruled out for Sunday’s game.
