According to release put out Wednesday evening by the NFL, the league has announced that they have hired former FBI director Robert S. Mueller III to investigate the league’s pursuit and handling of evidence in the Ray Rice domestic violence case.
The investigation, which will reportedly be overseen by New York Giants owner John Mara and Pittsburgh Steelers team president Art Rooney II, was ordered by the league after a Wednesday afternoon report by the Associated Press indicated that a league executive received videotape evidence from an anonymous law enforcement official five months before it became public this past Monday on the website TMZ.
According to the NFL’s statement, Commissioner Roger Goodell has pledged the league’s full cooperation with the investigation. The final report will also be made public once the investigation has concluded.
