Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Ike Taylor swears by his trainer Tom Shaw and with good reason as the 34-year-old always looks chiseled and ready to step onto the football field even in the month of May.
Over the years, Taylor has recruited several of his Steelers teammates to train with him in Orlando, Florida at the Wide World of Sports Complex and that list includes fellow cornerbacks William Gay and Cortez Allen.
You’ll be happy to know that two of Taylor’s newest teammates, draft picks cornerback Shaquille Richardson and running back/wide receiver Dri Archer, also trained with Taylor, Gay and Allen under the watchful eye of Shaw leading up to the 2014 NFL Draft.
At the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine, Archer posted the fastest 40-yard dash time of
4.26 seconds to go along with a 38-inch vertical leap and a 6.86 three-cone drill time. As for Richardson, he wasn’t invited to the combine, but his Pro Day numbers included a 4.43 40-yard dash time, a 38.5-inch vertical leap and a 6.95 in the three-cone drill time. Those numbers are just numbers, but their impressive nonetheless.
Time will tell whether or not both Richardson and Archer will have long careers in the NFL, but if they don’t, it probably won’t be because they don’t have their bodies ready to play. Shaw does an amazing job of having athletes in top-notch condition and Taylor is proof of that.
