The Pittsburgh Steelers defensive backs coach Carnell Lake knows all about new cornerback Shaquille Richardson as he recruited him when he was a coach at UCLA for one season.
Richardson, who the steelers drafted with their first of two fifth round picks in the 2014 NFL Draft, accepted a scholarship to UCLA, but when he was arrested on suspicion of felony theft as an incoming freshman, he was released from the program.
Lake says that while Richardson has the versatility to play inside, he sees him staying outside in the Steelers defense.
“Really a tough competitor,” said Lake of Richardson. “Six-feet tall and just a good size. Aggressive, bump and run coverage and does a good job tackling and is a smart, young corner that can come in and contribute.”
