New Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier has a smooth and glossy look that’s easily recognizable and while many might think he shaves his head to achieve that look, the fact is he suffers from alopecia, an autoimmune disorder that causes hair loss.
“When I was younger it was kind of difficult, because I got it when I was five-years-old” Shazier said during his Friday introductory press conference. “I was probably the only little kid walking around with a bald head. It was kind of tough, because kids are mean, kids will pick on you and say things that will hurt your feelings. But I just embraced it. I feel like if you didn’t like me for who I am, then it’s a problem with you.”
Shazier believes his hairless look is now his signature and you have to admit that he even looks fast. He also has a great sense humor about him as well when it comes to the disorder.
“I love having alopecia,” said Shazier. “I feel like having a bald head actually saves me a lot of money.”
