Miami Dolphins unrestricted free agent cornerback Chris Owens reportedly visited with the Pittsburgh Steelers this past week, but he is no longer on the market now as he signed with the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday.
While the Steelers did not sign Owens, it’s obvious that they would like add a free agent cornerback or two to the roster prior to training camp. They need experienced bodies to work with over the summer as they currently only have three that fit that description after releasing Curtis Brown a few weeks ago.
Should the Steelers ultimately sign a free agent cornerback, it will likely be for the veteran minimum and it won’t mean anything as far as the draft goes.
Already this offseason, the Steelers have attended the Pro Day workouts of top-rated cornerbacks Darqueze Dennard and Justin Gilbert. Dennard is also already scheduled to come to Pittsburgh for a pre draft visit in addition.
The #Chiefs have signed cornerback Chris Owens and waived defensive tackle Brandon Moore.
