After the Super Bowl is over is generally when we begin hearing about players starting their offseason training. On Monday, Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jonathan Dwyer posted on Twitter that he’s now out in Arizona training with linebacker LaMarr Woodley.
Woodley has trained out in Arizona as recent as last season, but it’s unknown if this is the first time that Dwyer, who in the past has done some of his offseason training down in Florida, has trained out west. Over the course of the past several years, both have been accused of not taking their offseason training seriously enough.
Both Dwyer and Woodley have uncertain futures right now as it relates to the Steelers. Dwyer will be an unrestricted free agent in March while Woodley might find himself a cap casualty if the Steelers wind up signing fellow outside linebacker Jason Worilds to a long-term deal during the offseason.
A few weeks ago, cornerback Ike Taylor said on his weekly radio show that Woodley promised to train for a month with him down in Florida under the watchful eye of renowned trainer Tom Shaw, so that’s worth looking out for. For now, at least we know that both players are back at work preparing for the 2014 season.
