Steelers Might Have To Promote DE Brian Arnfelt From The Practice Squad On Saturday

With Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end Brett Keisel already ruled out for the Sunday game against the Miami Dolphins with a foot injury, and nose tackle Steve McLendon likely to miss a second consecutive game with an ankle injury, that leaves only four healthy defensive linemen on the 53 man roster. As a result, the Steelers might be forced to promote rookie undrafted free agent Brian Arnfelt from the practice squad on Saturday and dress him for the game on Sunday.

Arnfelt, who appeared in 37 career games during his career at Northwestern, played 146 snaps during the preseason with most of them coming at the right defensive end spot. He registered eight total tackles during late action in four games and generally represented himself well, especially against the run.

The Steelers normally like to dress at least five defensive linemen for games, so this is definitely something to be on the lookout for come Saturday. In order to promote Arnfelt to the 53 man roster, a player would have to be waived in order to make room for him. That player could very well wind up being either linebacker Kion Wilson or cornerback Isaiah Green.
