There is a chance the Pittsburgh Steelers might face Minnesota Vikings backup quarterback Matt Cassel and not starter Christian Ponder Sunday as the latter has a rib injury that could keep him out of the game in London.
According to the Associated Press, Vikings coach Leslie Frazier says Wednesday’s practice will “be a big signal in what direction we’ll have to go.”
Ponder has thrown five interceptions versus just two touchdowns so far this season and has completed 59.0% of passes. He has also been sacked 10 times thus far.
Cassell has faced the Steelers a few times during his career. As a member of the Kansas City Chiefs last season, Cassell was 11-of-26 for 154 yards in the 16-13 loss to the Steelers.
In 2009, Cassell beat the Steelers 27-24 despite only completing 50% of his passes.
