The Pittsburgh Steelers dropped to 0-3 on the season Sunday night with their 40-23 loss to the Chicago Bears, and it spolied the 2013 debut of tight end Heath Miller, who tore multiple knee ligaments late last season in the loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.
Miller, who was targeted four times in the game, caught three passes for 35 yards in his first game back and looked like his old self while having his snap count understandably monitored.
“It was a good start, and we’ll continue to progress him,” head coach Mike Tomlin said following the loss. “Obviously, it’s a positive thing having him back in uniform; he was an asset to us tonight.”
The Steelers weren’t expecting Miller to come charging out of the phone booth with an “S” on his chest, but they have to be happy with the mild-mannered version that showed up to play Sunday night against the Bears.
Miller will surely see his snap count increase moving forward, and the offense will be better for it if they can find a way not to get quarterback Ben Roethlisberger killed in the process.
No, Miller is not Superman, but he is a man who is super when it comes to his worth ethic and preparation. If the Steelers had more players like him, they probably wouldn’t be 0-3 to start the season.
