The Pittsburgh Steelers announced a roster move on Saturday as undrafted free agent guard Nik Embernate has been waived injured and free agent tackle D\’Anthony Batiste has been signed to take his place on the 90 man roster.
Embernate tore his ACL and MCL on Thursday and his surgery will be forthcoming. Assuming he clears waivers, Embernate will revert back to the Steelers injured reserve list likely for the rest of the season.
There were high hopes for the San Diego State product, who was a high-priority undrafted signing by the Steelers. While there was no guarantee he would have made the 53 man roster out of training camp this year, Embernate seemed almost certain to be a strong candidate to make the eight man practice squad.
Batiste has been around the league for a while and started 10 games for the Arizona Cardinals in 2012 at left tackle. As we mentioned Friday evening, the Louisiana-Lafayette product allowed 12 sacks, 7 quarterback hits and 35 hurries on 425 pass plays last season, according to Pro Football Focus.
In adding Batiste to the roster, it now means that undrafted free agent offensive lineman Mike Golic Jr. has been moved back inside to guard. Golic opened up the offseason playing the right tackle position after playing both guard and center while at Notre Dame.
