Pittsburgh Steelers fullback Will Johnson left the game Monday night against the Washington Redskins with a rib injury following a big hit from safety DeJon Gomes, but according to a Tuesday morning tweet of his, Johnson expects to be ready for the third preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Johnson was injured with 4:16 left in the first half when backup quarterback Bruce Gradkowski appeared to lead him too far with a second down pass. Gomes hit Johnson helmet-to-helmet on the play and the fullback stayed down on the field for a little while as the Steelers trainers attended to him. He did not return to the game.
This is certainly encouraging news as Johnson would be a big loss for the Steelers offense as not only does he function as a lead blocker, but he\’s also a legitimate threat in the passing game as well.
